I got this to charge my Plantronics 855 cellphone headset from the USB port on my PC (or USB car charger). The tiny "micro B" connector is not the easiest thing for an aging fellow with aging eyes to get connected and the standard could be improved by a tactile or high-contrast visual indication of which way is "up" to ease the connection process, but otherwise, no complaints here.

Works perfectly, I bought it as the smallest recharging plug I could find for my cell phone. Everyone wants to sell a 1 or 2 meter cable and this is all it takes. On the other hand, the cables are half the price and you can buy a freestanding combination wall and car charger in a little bag for the same money, $15. But in this case I'm trying to travel light and smaller is better.

This has a lot of potential but is very troublesome. First of all the instructions are horrible and you pretty much have to learn how to work it from trial and error. Second of all, this acts as an external wireless card used to connect to the internet and will delete your current internal wireless cards driver so it no longer works! Every single time I use this thing I have to system restore my laptops. I have tried this card on Windows 7, Vista, and Windows 98 and have all experienced the same problem. Forget this and save your money!

I've used this, along with XLink Kai software, to be able to play ad-hoc PSP games with other people over my broadband connection. Software and driver installation was a little odd, as I tried both the software that shipped with it and other software from the internet to run it. Once you get past the hurdle of configuring the device, using it is a breeze. I played hours and hours of Monster Hunter Freedom Unite using this, and couldn't have got as far in the game without it.

The device does get a bit hot after use, and it doesn't take long for it to get there. It's not hot enough to hurt anyone, but hotter than I like my wireless devices to get. Overall, it's a great product, especially for those looking to do what I did and don't feel like purchasing a PlayStation 3 and using their adHocParty software to do the same thing.

Not a bad product at all. I've only used it for xlink kai to play PSP online. I've never been more than a few feet from the router so I can't comment on the range. It was delivered in like 2 days which is cool. It was a little hard to install, but I was specifically trying to use it for the PSP. (Remember to use the right drivers. :) ) If you are just looking for a wireless adapter the installation is basically plug n play.

Overall I'd rate the product an 8/10.

Technology can always be improved...works great but one time it grabbed a bad IP address or something and I had to unplug/replug it a few times. On the auto configure setting it grabs a random IP every time so usually it works but I'm sure manually configuring would make it flawless. I used it for a mac and it worked fine! 4.5/5 stars!

I bought this hub because in our office we couldnt print while we are connected to the VPN. Since the printer wasnt on the same network anymore.

This Hub solved our problem. 4 users are able to connect via USB and print with no problems while connected to the VPN.

The only problem I would say is that we have to manually switch and control who gets to print. Basically only one user at a time could be connected to the printer and you can control that through a software included with the Hub.

But otherwise......a Quality product !

In our little computer room with 3 desktop machines & a couple of laptops, we need to share the new Canon printer that also had a scanner. The old USB switch that worked fine on a simple printer would not work at all with the multi-purpose printer. I had do go a number of "go arounds" with the Belkin and Canon tech support teams to figure out the problem with the old switch.

It turns out a POWERED USB switch is needed for this setup to work correctly. This switch is able to share the printer and 3 other USB devices among our computers. A quick and simple install was needed on each of the computers to work with the switch, plus the printer/scanner drivers.

I bought the F1U400 as a KVM switch substitute, allowing me to use a USB mouse and USB keyboard between two computers (I can't use a KVM for my monitor, due to RF interference).

The switch *blinks*. When a USB component is plugged into it, the box indicates this by blinking an LED for that component. The blinking is very distracting, and the design of the LEDs (lots of curves) would make it difficult to cover them up. I've ended up hiding the switch behind my monitor.

The box has four buttons to swap USB components among hosts. Pressing a button once lights up the current host. You then need to press it again to start cycling through the list. The box waits for input for five seconds; only after those five seconds are complete does it reconnect the component. Any other button presses in that time cancel the change. This means that switching from one machine to another is far more laborious than with a normal KVM (particularly if you're switching a keyboard and a mouse separately).

Because I'm operating in a mixed Windows/Unix environment, I haven't installed the Windows switching software.

The F1U400 is probably a reasonable approach for components like printers, mass storage devices and scanners, which won't be moving from machine to machine with nearly the frequency of keyboards and mice. You'll have to hide the LEDs, though.

"Don't bother using with Vista" 2007-06-06

Belkin's website has a Vista driver, but don't bother using it. Driver setup application hangs. Managed to get past the hang by launching the driver under a debugger (ntsd.exe) and continuing past all the access violation breaks. Once the driver was installed, I found that the throughput is horrible. Communication through the serial port is roughly 25% the speed of what it should be, no mater what baudrate you use. I am definitely returning this device.

Belkin has beta drivers for Mac OS X 10.1 and 10.2 at http://www.belkin.com/beta/#1 ... I think the trick (stupid though it is) is to disable HotSync in the HotSync Manager and then re-enable it, after having selected the USB seria port as the desired connection. From what I've seen, you don't even need to quit HotSync Manager between disabling and re-enabling the HotSync.

This KVM works well with two monitors and USB mouse and keyboard. I was concerned at first if it would be compatible with my LINUX Ubuntu and Windows computers but it seems to swap back and forth with no issues. Occasionally on a Windows workstation the mouse pointer will disappear but it will usually land on the Start button and can be controlled again. Also, the Num Lock, Scroll Lock, and Caps Lock indicator lights don't reflect the actual "keyboard state" but that is just a minor issue. All in all, it was a good buy. I purchased the switch separately and got the proprietary cables from Amazon at an amazing price.

I take some issue with the comment by one reviewer that it was expensive. This item at Amazon was 15% the price I was finding this at brick and mortar outlets. This is a GREAT deal. I bought two for a spare.

This is a bit harder to find connection type and is used mostly for a minority of digital cameras. I actaully use it to connect to my RCE Ebook.

Reminder/Caution: Most USB devices that use Mini-B USB connectors use the 5-pin variety, not the 4-pin type of this cable. I believe that the connectors are also physically different to prevent inadvertent use of the wrong one. Amazon sells both types. Thank goodness for USB. Simple plug and play. Even a technophobe could install and even love this ease of insertaion and execution.

I ordered this cable as the recommended link between my old iMac and my new HP 1012 laserprinter. That recommendation solved my one small problem (and perhaps this is simply my perception) since there are still more options and alternatives then I can detect from the little pictures and descriptions on my ordering screen. As it is, I had one of these cables on hand in my box of cables, zip drives, software installation disks, telephone cables, and more. I've never had a problem with a Belkin cable, never.

So four plus stars for the product and one more for the service, a tough combination to beat.

I purchased this device because I wanted a generic, USB-based port replicator. My goal was to connect my laptop to the power and USB cable and have the mouse, external keyboard, network cable, and other USB devices all tied in through the port replicator. I really don't use serial or parallel.

This device has the connectors for serial, parallel, two USB2 ports, and Ethernet networking. It also has video passthrough, which I'll come back to in a moment. It did not have PS/2 style mouse and keyboard ports. That's a serious shortcoming.

As for pass-through video ... I can't see the purpose of that at all. You can connect your monitor to the Belkin, then connect a video cable from the Belkin to your PC's video card. It doesn't make life any easier since you still have to connect the video cable. All it really does is to add a few inches of video cable. Seems a total waste as a feature. Maybe I'm missing something. But I would rather have keyboard, mouse, or additional USB ports. Maybe even a firewire? No need for a pass-through video.

So anyway, I was disappointed by the lack of keyboard & mouse ports, but hooked it up anyway. Everything worked fine. All my devices were recognized, driver installation was smooth, etc. The only thing odd was that it seemed that whenever I generated network or printer traffic through this device, I would hear the "ping-pong" sounds typically heard when a USB device is disconnected / reconnected. In fact, with regular use, the PC was making "ping-pong" sounds every few seconds.

Whether it was my PC, the driver, or the device that couldn't keep up, this device simply didn't work out for me. Even if it worked well, I probably would have returned it due to the unusual choice for ports.

I have a Mac G4, and this card will work. However the first one I had was determined to be faulty (Belkin tech support surprised me by actually being helpful and knowledgeable), and I sent it back for a replacement. The second card works better, but I still have issues with it not always recognizing something plugged into it on startup.

Amazon's packing of this item was sub-par. It was simply put into an anti-static bag, and put in the standard Amazon box, with an air packet tossed on top, this did nothing to prevent the card from rattling around in shipping.

This was very easy to install. Just pop it into appropriate slot, screw it in, and install the drivers. WOOT! Too much runs on USB these days and most machines do not have the space for all of your USB goodies. This solved my problems. It is hard wired in so no worries about conflicts between devices running at the same time. Do not be afraid of this card. Get it. You will have no problems.

This product installed easily using Windows XP SP2 drivers. It worked well with USB devices that were previously problematic using the motherboard USB ports on an older Dell OptiPlex computer. Before installing this PCI card, a new laser printer attached to any motherboard port disabled the remaining USB ports for use with USB 2.0 devices. My only criticism of this card is the price. Many such PCI cards are available for 1/3 the price, but the Belkin card had a good record of device compatibility.

I'm in the unhappy situation of running Windows XP Pro on a Dell server, for which Dell won't support Windows XP, only Windows Server 2003. They've apparently got this mentality that if a computer can mount in a rack, there's no way anybody is going to use it for a workstation.

Previously I found and tried to use a card from Sonnet that the Dell server was apparently murdering. I've got one of those Sonnet cards in a Dell home/small business tower and it is doing just fine, but the same card would work for only a few days in the server and then die forever.

The Belkin F5U602 works; for all I know, it might be the only Firewire and USB card in the world that doesn't let the magic smoke out when installed in a PE2950. I'm streaming up to 25GB a day onto a FW800 LaCie RAID1 with it. (Not that that's 'fast,' but it's been rock solid for months.)

"Can't recommend this one" 2010-02-12

I'm usually a fan of Belkin products, but the F1DD102L is a real disappointment. It just doesn't work most times. After working fine for a little while, an attached computer that's powered on and running will suddenly have no video when you switch to it. There's no way to get the video back, including disconnecting the switch, removing cables, etc. Yet the computer is running fine, and if a display is directly connected to it, you see the video. The only way to get the switch to recognize it again is to reboot the PC - which is hard to do if you can't connect to it!

The switch doesn't work with some mice, including a Microsoft Intellimouse that I had. I contacted Belkin about this, and they blamed the mouse. Okay. Lately now the Belkin isn't recognizing the keyboard after a while now. Again, pulling cables doesn't help. I'm ready to toss this thing and find another brand.

Appearance wise, it's a nice unit. The cables are high quality, and the buttons function smoothly. It seems to be well built overall. But if it doesn't work when you need it, what's the point?

The Soho will not work with Avant Stellar(Northgate) or Logitech programmable keyboards. This is the fourth KVM DVI/USB I have purchased (Trendnet, IO Gear, and Belkin's less expensive model), and none have worked. They can only handle standard 101-117 keyboards and will not operate the additional F and G keys. What upsets me, is that I went out of my way to contact Belkin CS to make sure the Soho would work with my configuration. I was told yes. After I got it, Belkin CS told me, no it won't. Logitech's CS told me that they do not guarantee their product's when used with KVM switches. Belkin is usually a reliable company but they muffed this one. Also, the unit is a bit too big and the light was way too bright. I would recommend Belkins smaller KVM switch with the remote button. That was easier to use and took up less real estate. If it had worked, I would have kept that KVM.

The original unit that was sent to me had some sort of shielding problem which caused it (believe it or not) to interfere with my wi-fi network. Then, if that weren't enough, when I tried to set up the remote switching option (using key commands to switch computers), it stopped working altogether. The new unit they sent seems to work ok, although I'm leary to try setting up the key command function again. Belkin in general is a good company, maybe I just got a dud the first time.

Great product with one serious flaw....There is no HDCP passthrough. It's uncommon for most KVM/KVMP's to have one, but if you are ever interested in playing BlueRay DVD's on your system, a KVM without the HDCP passthrough will stop you dead in your tracks.

If this is a limiting factor for you like is was for me, try IOGEAR's GCS1782 Dual-Link DVI KVMP or StarTech's 2-PORT Dual Dvi USB KVM Switch. IOGEAR's KVMP offers 7.1 surround sound for about $50 more. The StarTech KVM supports dual monitors and adds about $100 to the price.

Initial installation worked fine, both mouse and display were switched w/o any problem, but my Compaq Desktop keyboard was not recognized by my laptop after switching. Upgrading the laptop BIOS and installing correct keyboard drivers fixed this issue.

It's strange that the product documentation does not contain information about hot key support: pressing Scroll Lock 4 times in a row will switch - an important undocumented feature. Thanks to "JustMe" for pointing this out!

The other thing I don't like is the Audio support cables: If I plugin the USB cable into the back of my laptop docking station, the audio cables are not long enough to reach the front, where audio ports are located. Fortunately, audio support is only a minor requirement for me.

Switching time for me is about 3 seconds, which is kind of what I expected to get.

Overall, 3 stars ...

I have mine hooked up using only one of the usb ports for my Microsoft Wireless Desktop (Wireless Comfort Keboard 1.0A & Wireless Optical Mouse 2.0).

I use it to switch from my Dell Dimension Desktop to my HP TC1100 Tablet in a Docking Station that I use spanning both monitors.

Audio & Monitor switching works fine using the hardware switch or the software switch. USB 1.0 fine for keyboard & mouse.

Does everything I expected, using my wireless keyboard & mouse!

Decides for itself when you want to change inputs.

If you push the button, 50% of time it fails to correctly hold new signal after user button press, swapping you back to other machine. The other half of the time it never finds the new signal and swaps you back to the first machine.

"Junk - Continuously auto-switches." 2006-07-28

This is an absolute P.O.S.

As someopne else said, it auto-switches everytime you reboot a machine, and apparently any other time the O/S or BIOS decides to re-initialise the USB ports. What it does is switch back over to the other input when you reboot the machine you're working on.

Even worse than that... it won't stay selected on a machine if that machine hasn't initialised its USB ports properly, e.g.:

I am working on a dead machine here which hasn't managed to get its USB drivers up and running properly yet (it's midway through the XP repair/setup), so I'm only running video through the KVM and have a ps/2 keyboard attached to the machine. This would be fine if it wasn't for the fact that after about 5 seconds this junk KVM decides to switch back to my main machine. I do have the KVM's USB cable (for mouse/keyboard) plugged into the machine as well, but until XP setup installs the USB drivers and 'connects', this thing will continue to keep switching away from the machine I'm working on.

I had much better luck just using an extra keyboard/mouse and the input-selector on my Monitor.

100% JUNK.

If you aren't rebooting computers regularly, and you can put up with the above, then there is the other problem of the delay. As another writer said, there is a delay of around 5 seconds when you switch. This is because the device basically performs a USB connect / disconnect. This means you also get the "dum daa" USB noise (the sound that Windows XP makes whenever you plug-in a USB device). The only thing is, you get it twice. Once for the 'virtual' mouse and once for the 'virtual' keyboard.

Pressing the select button on the top isn't exactly responsive either. Sometimes you have to press a few times, or give up and wait 10 seconds and try again. Or unplug the damn thing from all USB ports and try again. Or just unplug it and throw it away.

I suppose it has to be 1 star. There's no option for zero-stars.

This device did not suit my needs. I want the device to automatically connect my laptop to all my USB devices without wires. It does not work with USB audio or external USB graphics adapters. I still need to plug things in. On top of that, sometimes I need to reboot the USB hub to get it picked up by my laptop. You are better buying a plain-Jane USB hub and plugging in one wire than having to deal with this mess.

I hear WiQuest, the chipmaker for this device, is also closing its doors if that is any indication.

I was very happy with the wireless adapter upon receipt. It took me a time to initially set-up but if you're tech. savy, it's not difficult. I believe it would be a challenge for anyone who isn't. However, I tend to dive into things first, and only reference documentation if I experience a problem.

You can't beat the price, and it functions well. However, the driver is not supported on Vista or Win 7 (and it's stated on Amazon).

I would recommend this to anyone looking for an inexpensive and very dependable wireless adapter.

Note: I just provided mine to my sister, as she needed one, and I'm thinking about another purchase.

We bought this USB internet device after being disappointed with the setup and operation of a competitor. Not only was this easy to install, but it delivers dependable connections day in and day out. The software interface could stand to be more robust in the way of having more security functionalities. There are no dropped connections and a wireless distance of 30 feet provides about a 50-60% level. I would not hesitate in recommending this as I would buy more of their products.

If you want to use this USB adapter for Snow Leopard you need to track down some different drivers. At least, my experience was that the drivers from the manufacturer (even most recent ones) did not work. Instead, I used drivers from hField Technologies who have a product with the same chipset. You need to install their software and use their connection manager application, but once you do everything seems to work great. Search for hField technologies wi-fire.

I wasn't getting good reception on my Macbook's AirPort, so I looked for something to improve the wireless connectivity. It was between this or the ASUS, and I choose this because they seemed comparable, and this was a bit cheaper. Be sure to install the software first before plugging in the USB, because I did it the other way around, and I had to redo it. After it was set up, I'm getting great reception! On my AirPort, I was getting inconsistent coverage beyond 6 feet - and forget about it if I tried going to Starbucks, but now, I can roam anywhere in the house and get a strong signal. My only complaint is that I use a USB mouse, and the USB dongle is slightly blocking the other USB port, and I have to wiggle it a bit to plug in both. I'm so relieved that I can actually use the MacBook for what it was designed for, and really, this says something about Apple when a USB dongle that costs less than $20 fixes a problem on a laptop that costs $1k, but I digress. I'm using OS X 10.5 on a MacBook.

This cable has embarrased me and my team in front of important audiences. First off, you can't switch the input to the projector back to the first laptop until 30 seconds after you switched to the second. This is a painfully long wait if you happen to switch to the wrong laptop by accident.

In another presentation this piece of junk began to aoutomatically switch back to the previous laptop about 15 seconds into presenting from the second.

I strongly discourage the purchase of this switch.

I left my iPod in the charger for several hours on at least three other occasions with no real measurable results (the battery charge status light did not change from orange to green). I charged the iPod via one of the USB ports on my PC for about three hours and the battery status light changed from orange to green. So much for the portable charger.

This is my second time buying this product. I bought it several years ago locally. Installed it on my older desktop that had front usb ports but they were usb 1. So I installed a Belkin pci usb card with 4 external and one usb plug

So when I was given this other computer it had no front usb ports. Its so much nicer to have ports on front. Cause I often use my external drives etc

Course you have to run the usb cord to the internal usb pci card or outside thru an opening to an extrnal usb port on back. But its no problems

Just cause we are ladies doesn,t mean we cant do it. Right??

Locally price was $49 for either gray or ivory. Amazon $20 cheaper

Run far, far away from this USB Hub! It constantly resets itself, so anything plugged into it with be working fine, then go offline, follwed by getting 'recognized' again (sometimes including a driver reinstall of the device). When I mean constantly, I mean at random intervals, but around 10 times in a given hour it will do this.

At first I thought it was the hub itslef, so I exchanged it, but the 2nd hub did exactly the same thing. Stay away. You've been warned.

Have this product installed on my daughter's computer for about two years without any major problems. Read all the other reviews and it appears a lot of customers are having issues with this adapter. I also purchased the Belkin N1 Vision router and it's a good product, easy to install, just plug in the wires and the Belkin N1 Vision does the complete set-up for you. I hooked this router to my computer running cable then to my daughter's computer using the old slow AOL phone modem. Installed the Belkin N1 wireless USB adapter to her computer and she is now downloading and uploading at high-speed. I do agree that Belkin has not made any firmware updates to both the adapter and the N1 router since my purchase about two years ago. The only minor issue I became aware of was on some occasions the system would indicate "No Internet Connection", both my computer and my daughter's system would drop the internet signal, consequently losing all connection to the internet. To resolve this issue after speaking with a Belkin representative, he advised me to power-off the Belkin N1 router for about 30 seconds then power-on to allow the router to re-boot. After re-booting the signal was regained and the internet connection was restored. I sense this is a firmware issue which Belkin still has not resolved with both of these products. I hope this information is helpful to anyone experiencing the same issue(s) with Belkin wireless equipment. Belkin N1 Vision Wireless Router (F5D8232-4)

Belkin has 3 usb adapters. I am trying to figure out the differences. I purchased this one because it was cheaper, Fry's had two in stock and the price was reduced. On the Belkin web site it is the most expensive of the 3. I thought it was discontinued because of its size. Compared to my thumb drive size G adapter this one is hugh. I wanted to take it back and get a "current" model that was slim. Put it on my wife's computer any way and what a difference. Using a N1 Belkin router I purchased with it and the speed difference from G is stunning. I have had no problems with the adapter. Computer has been left on for a couple days, put to sleep, multiple start ups in a day. It all works very well. Now, i wonder if i want a slim attractive usb looking adapter or another one of these.

This adapter is a good substitute for Canon BU-20, which is designed for the Canon printer Pixma MP610. However, it does protrude from the front of the printer, so I remove it when not in use and hide it inside the printer with the tray door shut. I only use it this with my printer and Mac laptop inside my bedroom so I have not tried the 100 meters of distance or on different levels in my house. I do find that there is some difficulty when the bluetooth adapter from my printer is not in direct view with my laptop (I think obstructions block the bluetooth signal). I did have to download a driver from Canon for my Mac, but not from Belkin, so it was not truly plug-n-play for me. However, I have no major problems with it. My brother is actually the one who recommended it to me since it was plug-n-play for his Dell laptop and same printer model with no problems whatsoever. I know that his girlfriend uses the same printer at his apartment with her Mac laptop without any problems too.

I did try the pricier sister product from Belkin ("Mini" bluetooth adapter F8T016) before purchasing this version, which did not work since the Mini did not offer backward-compatibility with Bluetooth v1.1-, 1.2- and 2.0-compliant devices, such as my printer. Bottomline: this device works and is more affordable at $25 than it's counterpart Canon BU-20. Based on Belkin's website, there may be a newer model available in the near future with added capability.

I have 8 USB ports on my desktop, but only 4 are on the back and the rest are recessed behind a sliding door on the front (not good for permanent connections). I'm also using another powered hub that is located further from the computer.

I'm using this hub Unpowered for my keyboard and wireless mouse dongle and it's working great. I needed to use the short extension cable provided so I taped the hub to the side of my computer so it wouldn't be dangling. I'll probably move my Webcam onto the hub also since it's rarely used.

I think the hub is a bit expensive(at $25), and it would be great if they offered it for less without the adapter for those that just want to use it unpowered. If I see it go on sale I'm buying a second one.

I bought it for the price (it was on sale). I have DSL so the .b speed is plenty. Worked initially when there was not much security. But, the moment you enabled WAP etc, it worked when the PC was on, but lost its settings after a reboot. You have to enter wep keys every time !!! Tech support -- after loooooog waits, flounders around, abliet very politely. After 2-3 calls, they escsalated the levels to "level 3" who was supposed to call back with a solution, but does not. Basically, they will drag / delay etc till you give up & tey do not have to honor the lifetime warranty they advertise. Also, I had XP related problems (as did a few others). I have been working on PCs for 20 yrs, and this is a bust. Avoid if you want security. If you live in the farm and do not care about neighbors, I think it will work provided you do not load the adapter with encryption etc.

I have this working just fine right now on my Mac G4 desktop with Tiger. HOWEVER - I downloaded the driver for 10.2 and installed the adapter, and THEN upgraded from 10.2 to 10.4. I know they don't yet have a driver for 10.4 available, but if you can get it to work with a eariler OS then it can work in 10.4

After choosing the correct cable from the Belkin website, I carefully matched to this item, since the info was not a full description. The item number matched a new 2.0 USB 10' extension cable that I needed to use for a Belkin Plus Hub for printers and a scanner (also USB 2.0). I was shocked when I received this USB cable in a packaged marked as ©2001 and only 1.1 capable. The image on this page is completely different that what I received. It even had a G3 iMac (blue) connected to an ancient USB hub on the back to show how the product needed to be connected. No wonder it didn't list a USB version.

I don't want to sound grumpy about this USB hub. I've had my hub for more than a year now and it has worked with all of the flash drives I've plugged into it. The four ports on the back of the hub are too close for my liking.

I can't speak to the iPod shuffle (don't have one) but my digital camera plugs in nicely. For personal use, though, I'd like a little more design and personality to go along with the functionality.

I originally got this on discount at Best Buy as an impulse buy. This has proven to be very useful in terms of spreading the available usb ports on my computer. Although now, my computer has several of its own usb ports, I still keep it around. For portability, it's not very compact by design. I keep mine on the desktop hooked up to my printer, etc. So when I need to switch from desktop to laptop, I can easily move the devices without having to unplug every item. For ease of use, it loses a star. The ports are in the back, with a lone port on the top. The back ports making hiding the usb plugged devices easy, but it also makes plugging in new ones a pain. Only 3 ports in the back and a convenient one ono the top. Never had a problem with it in the few years I've owned it.

I bought this switch so that I could use my full-sized keyboard and trackball with my ASUS Eee PC 1000 10-Inch Netbook (1.6 GHz Intel Atom N270 Processor, 1 GB RAM, 40 GB Solid State Drive, 20 GB E-Storage, Linux, 6 Cell Battery) Fine Ebony. I wanted to be able to switch back and forth between my netbook and my work laptop.

This switch was very easy to install -- it doesn't require any software to be installed which is a big plus (since I can't install software on my work computer). The switch button is wireless so that you can set it anywhere that is handy.

The "lag time" between switching could be zippier. In addition, I had problems having it work with my Kensington Expert Mouse Optical USB Trackball for PC or Mac 64325 but it works just fine with a Logitech Cordless Optical Trackman (USB/PS/2) Also, when I switch back to my primary laptop which is in a docking station, somehow, the laptop gets a signal to eject from the docking station.

However, these are minor irritations and I'm satisfied with the KVM switch and would purchase it again.

The Belkin FLDF102U Flip lives up to what is advertised. It is easy to install and works perfectly for my needs. I have two computers on my desk and need to work with both machines with only one monitor and keyboard. My only complaint is that when you "flip" to the other computer, it is a little slow to give control to the other machine.

My experience was similar to what several others here have mentioned. The first day I hooked it up, it worked. The next day it did not. When I hit the button to switch computers I get unreliable results...usually it switches the video but not the mouse and keyboard. I have found that by flipping it about 4 times it will sync itself and I get control of the desired computer.

You might have to jiggle the remote switch plug a little before you get contact. The light on the remote switch must glow either green or yellow. If not, jam the plug in harder.

When it was working, I did find an annoying 6 second delay before the mouse and keyboard would activate. The video is instant. I'm also trying an Airlink 101 and I find it switches instantly, so it can be done.

It's a nice attractive design and the snake style combined usb/video cable to the computer is great along with pervasive yet subtle color coding. I love the cute little remote switch button with long thin extension cable for convenient placement; it can also be used as a foot switch, which is great. I like having a dedicated hardware switch rather than hot-key only operation. Device requires no software....a major plus, but hotkey operation is available with a software download. Airlink 101 has a built in hotkey, Belkin should do that too since it allows hotkey operation with no software.

Other people here have more patience or are more forgiving of quirks....they say it's finicky. Or in my case I could say "just click it four times and it might do it." Blather....it either works or it doesn't, and it don't! A simple device like this has no excuse not to work perfectly, all day, every day. How hard can it be...we're not splicing DNA here. A first rate design at a good price, unfortunately DOA.

"Great product - when it works" 2007-11-11

I saw a video review of the Flip on cnet and thought it was the greatest idea ever. I have a home business and often move between 4 or 5 computers, and it's an electronics snarl in my tiny office. So the Flip would allow me to share the monitor, mouse and keyboard for 2 computers at each desk. Cool!

It was easy to set up the Flip - the body of the thing is pretty chunky, but I have a big, multi-tiered desk suitable for hiding wires and connections. Connecting them with the Flip was easy and really obvious. At one desk, I have a desktop tower and a laptop. The Flip has one shorter cord, suitable for the nearby laptop, and a longer cord suitable to run father, to the tower stashed next to the desk. Good so far.

The Flip color-codes the computers - when my laptop is using the screen/mouse/keyboard, the Flip button glows yellow, and when the desktop computer is selected, it glows green. That works.

So what doesn't work? The Flip itself, sometimes, inexplicably won't flip - meaning I push the button, and nothing happens. This is a disaster, because I have had to stop everything, dismantle the Flip, and plug my peripherals into the computer directly.

I'm stubborn, so I have reassembled it, and it worked again - for a while. But if I remove my laptop from the system, and then hook it back up, the Flip causes all my display settings to go haywire. My laptop, with the Flip, only recognizes my monitor as a default plug-and-play monitor, and uses the wrong driver, so the monitor's screen resolution is screwed up. I then have to uninstall the driver and install the one that came with my monitor - an annoying little time-waster that might really confuse someone not used to installing drivers.

I haven't sent the Flip back - I've had it for about 3 weeks now, and I haven't given up on it entirely yet. But right now, I only have access to one of my computers at this desk, because the Flip failed again this morning. Who knows, maybe tomorrow it will work.

I can't recommend the Flip wholeheartedly, but I can't say "don't buy it" either. If you never change your computer configuration, leaving it hooked up all the time (without taking your laptop to work, for instance) then maybe it will work for you. Or if you don't mind crawling under your desk to swap out the wiring periodically when it doesn't work - then maybe the Flip is good enough for you.

With this product, you get to be surprised every time you sit down to the computer. You never know if it is going to switch between your two computers and, if it actually does, you are probably going to be looking at a screen in 800x600 video because it can't properly detect the video mode. Most of the time it just fails to recognize the other machine and you have to unplug everything and re-plug it in. It has a lot of cabling which basically just clutters up your cables without adding any value. Definitely avoid.

Nice design! Arrived as described, smooth and prompt service, as always with Amazon. The product has a clean, well-thought design and finish; sleek around the edges, I should type. The body of the product is somewhat large and can be cumbersome if you plan on using it as a mobile unit at times, but I do not. I am not sure at how effective the actual fan/ cooling unit it, but it does seem to work and can be rather noisy, but not at all annoyingly so...this is good, for me at least, as it helps block out other surrounding noises; it's like listening to white noise as one sleeps at night.

For the price of the product, Belkin has done well.

Really quiet and efficient. She likes the wrist rest also. Only complaint would be that it could use a little padding underneath. Not for heat but comfort on bare legs. "Perfect size for small hands but retractable cord is distracting" 2010-01-25

Basically the title of this review says it all. It's a nice looking mouse and perfectly sized for a child's hand but it's on a retractable cord which prohibits natural movements and is rather distracting, you never forget that your mouse is tethered to the computer. I got this for my nephew to use with his new ASUS Eee PC Seashell 1005HA-PU17-BK 10.1-Inch Black Netbook - 10.5 Hours of Battery Life (Windows 7 Starter) and I've found it's just too distracting for him and with this as the only alternative, he prefers to just use the little pad on the laptop for navigating, so this doesn't get much use. On the upside it didn't cost very much and it doesn't use batteries. I don't know if he would use a cordless mouse more, since he likes using the pad. My mom has aHP G71-340US 17.3-Inch Black/Silver Laptop - Up to 4 Hours of Battery Life (Windows 7 Home Premium) and she hates the navigational pad and always uses her cordless mouse, which I purchased after getting this mouse for my nephew and seeing how it worked, realizing it was going to be more hindrance than help.

I purchased this item because I am pretty much using all my USB ports, and I liked the idea of having high-speed ports for my high-speed USB devices. When I plugged it in, not only did it not carry my keyboard or my printer (it was like they weren't plugged in at all), but it also killed my other USB ports -- none of them worked after I plugged it in -- even after I unplugged it. I have NO IDEA what happened but after I did a system restore to the previous day, and then did a reversal of the system restore, then I had my USB ports back. I couldn't print out my return label fast enough. I am fairly saavy when it comes to technology, and I can say I may never buy a Belkin Hub again. Bad experience for this first time Belkin buyer and full-time web developer.

I purchased this product from a retailer, but returned it in favor of a 7-port StarTech hub from Amazon. As some other reviewers have noted (elsewhere on Amazon and on other ratings sites), this hub is unreliable. After a day or two, it dropped its connection to the computer, and I had to unplug the USB connection to get it to be recognized again.

I borrowed a cheap USB 2.0 hub from a friend, and it worked fine, so I realized that the problem was caused by this hub and was not a computer problem. Belkin's only advice was that this hub might work if it wasn't connected to a surge suppressor. The explanation simply didn't jive with the facts, and removing a safety device seemed to be a ludicrous solution, anyway.

They've lost my confidence...I don't recommend this product. There are cheaper, more reliable products out there. (So far, I'm very happy with the StarTech ST7200USB 7-port hub I got from Amazon.)

I bought this unit 5 years ago and have not had any problems. It is on its second battery but that is to expected since they only last for 3 to 5 years. It keeps the power clean and shuts down the system just like it was designed. Just remember to properly choose a UPS that's appropriate for the system and/or other equipment you have. This one is only 300 watts so don't expect a high run time when you have a high-end system plugged into it. If you want to keep your computer, monitor, and peripherals up for 30 minutes after a power outage go get a 2200VA unit.

SUMMARY: Product does not work. Written instructions do not match unit. Belkin phone support suggests I take unit to an electrician. Seriously!

This Belkin UPS arrived dead: When plugged in, it "clicked" (so we know it "sees" the line voltage) but all three LED indicator lights stay dark. Also, when removing it from the box, I could hear the battery "klunk" as it shifted from side-to-side.

So, I hypothesized that the UPS had been shipped with the battery disconnected. And so, I decided to open the battery compartment, to connect the (hypothetically not-yet-connected) battery. To open the battery compartment, the instructions tell me to move the slider in the arrow direction. But the unit does not have a slider or an arrow! So I called Belkin support. And, after more than half an hour on the phone, their "solution" was to suggest that I take the unit to an electrician. How ridiculous!

I used to think that Belkin made good stuff and stood behind it. I no longer think so, and will avoid all Belkin products from now on.

Honestly, I avoid Belkin whenever I can, and I dislike pretty much all of their products, except this one. This is an excellent USB hub - one of the very few that can really, truly handle multiple high-bandwidth devices on a single hub. It works well, and it has lasted quite a while for me. Unknown to a lot of folks, these hubs are unique in the respect that they have a separate controller chip for each USB port on the device, exactly like the design of the ports on your mainboard. Most hubs use 1 controller for all of the ports to save money, which causes all of the ports to run at the LOWEST COMMON SPEED. This is a huge performance hit, in addition to causing lots of the USB problems that folks have with the devices connected to them. I don't know why these aren't more popular, but these hubs are awesome. I wish I could say that about some of Belkin's other products.

Bought this hub and installed per directions provided with item. No problems for Windows XP Pro, recognized and installed with no issues. Connected up all four ports and have no problems at all - I have a multi-card reader installed in one, two ports use my Apricorn portable HDD (one power, one power+data, usb Y cable), and one has a UPS attached (for status monitoring.) Hub is running at 'high' (orange), UPS is running at 'low' (green) and the Apricorn & card reader are running at 'high' (orange), based on LED colors for each port. I have no spacing issues for the standard USB cables that came with each piece of equipment attached. No heat issues but I found an old stand from my external DVD writer that I am not using and and have put the hub on top of that to provide some air space underneath. So far no heating issues after 2 days of use. It is barely warm. Portable HDD is on auto sync every day and no problems transferring data. I like the fact that I can connect any level of USB to this without having to figure out at what speed the USB runs, which was my primary reason for buying this hub.

I started off with the cheaper version from Belkin but it just didn't work with Windows 7 on one of my computers and XP on the other one. I upgraded to this switcher and all is perfect. It installed and worked in minutes. I also love the fact that you can listen to music from one computer through the computer speakers while working on the other one. It also looks very nice. Slight negative is it's size, it's qiute long for a two way switcher because Belkin use the same box for their four way unit.

Physically, this is a very nice looking box and except for one problem, it probably functions well, too.

Installation couldn't be easier. But... the problem is that it doesn't have the USB throughput required for high speed devices (for example, a Wacom Bamboo Fun graphics tablet that your wife gives you for Christmas). If you wait long enough and put up with the questions about other things that could be wrong, Belkin support will EVENTUALLY tell you that they don't make a KVM switch that can handle a tablet.

Keyboard, monitor and audio (mic and speakers) work perfectly but if you want to switch a mouse using anything but the standard/default driver, this probably won't do it.

Pros: This item arrived super early as far as shipping and is exactly as indicated in the photo. It's not some cheap knock-off and works great.

Neutral: You can't choose what color you get. I ordered two and both of mine are white. The white looks nice, but if you want black, you have no choice in the matter.

Cons: It don't come with a cable, so you'll need to order that seperately. The blue LED light is bright enough to be a night light at night. So, you'll probably have to charge it somewhere other than in the bedroom.

This is a nice, standard mini-usb cable for attaching a standard host USB port to most standard USB digital cameras, a Blackberry, external 2.5" USB hard drives, etc.

The cable quality and shielding are excellent, and the cable passes USB2 signals as well as can be expected.

The only problem is that the device end of the cable has a very long, stiff connector. This translates too much of the cable weight into the small devices' connectors.

What do you do when you need 12 feet of USB cable (for PC to USB hub connection) and a 6 ft extension and 6 ft cable combination doesn't work? Well I'll tell you that this single cable works great!

The mislabeled part refers to the fact that my package says that the cable inside is a Firewire Cable - on the packages main card, but checking the connectors and reading the packages "secondary card" verified that it was indeed a gold plated USB cable.

Anyway you expect something touting this quality and this price point to work great and the Belkin PureAV Cable doesn't disappoint.

This is from Belkin's lower-cost Blue line, so it is a lot less expensive, and somewhat less attractive than the Silver line. The tradeoff is that the connector shells are plastic rather than metal, there is less shielding in the cable, no ferrite noise reduction blocks, and the cable itself is not covered with a silver mesh plastic braiding.

Does any of this really matter? Well, probably not, particularly if you are just using it (as I am) to connect a standard USB hub to a computer. Or a digital camera (a lot of them use mini USB connectors, so this will work with them).

I have both the silver and blue versions. I use the silver one in my family room, where it shows and the appearance matters more. Plus, I'm downloading lots of data through it for firmware updates, where a little interference can lead to big, sometimes unrecoverable, problems.

It is significantly less expensive than the silver, it works well, and is rugged enough to likely outlast the USB standard itself. There is a slight curve on the top of the shell so you can easily tell by feel which side is the top. Plus, it is a nice long length.

If you are on the fence about whether to go with the silver or blue version, I'd say go with the blue and don't look back.

THE DEAL BREAKER: The throughput was horrible for one of my intended purposes, a USB 2.0 HDTV receiver dongle. When the receiver is plugged directly into the computer's USB card, it works great, but when I try to take it through this hub it suffers badly. The throughput through this hub isn't a steady stream of data, but rather bursts of data. I can not use my HDTV receiver through this hub. The hub also seems to be extremely EMI/RFI sensitive.

If you just need a hub to string a printer, mouse, etc, then this one will likely "work", but I would not recommend it. It certainly will not work for anything that is data intensive, such as video. I am returning this product and going to spend more money on a better quality USB hub.

Add: I've since exchanged this hub with Belkin's "4PORT USB 2.0 Mobile Hub Black". I was hesitant about trying another cheap hub, but since the price was the same, it was a 1:1 swap. The "4PORT USB 2.0 Mobile Hub Black" is working fine with my ATSC (HDTV) receiver dongle on a desktop computer. The data throughput is steady, not in bursts like the "4Port USB 2.0 Lighted Hub Black" experienced. I suppose there is a possibility that I had just gotten a bad one, but I wouldn't take the chance on this hub.

The "4PORT USB 2.0 Mobile Hub Black" works as described, but it too has a few cons with it. The power cord is only 2-foot long, while the USB cable is 6-foot long. This doesn't make much sense. It doesn't have any LEDs on the hub itself at all. Not even a power led. (The AC adapter has a LED though.) Also, it is cheaply made physically. However, it is working fine, so far...

This hub does what it's supposed to, allowing you to attach USB devices without having to be at the level of the machine, or to attach more devices than there are ports on the motherboard. I like this hub: it's small, inobtrusive, and requires zero configuration. Potential buyers should note one caveat, however. The light on the unit is extremely bright and if you use the hub in self-power mode (that is, use the AC adapter that ships with it instead of it being powered by the USB bus), the light stays on even when the host machine is powered down. This may be distracting if your computer is in a bedroom, for example. It not, it would make a great night light!

I needed a 7 port, but saw all the reviews of them being underpowered, overheating wastes of money.

Bought one of these locally, was small and worked great, rather than replacing it with a 7 port, I bought a second and ganged them. 7 ports, two power supplies, haven't had a problem with underpowered ports yet. No heat build up either.

Only issues I have, it uses the small USB connecter similar to phones, so I couldn't easily use a longer cable (traded a 6' one from a hub my wife had) and the blue is really bright and always there.

This isn't 100% usb compatable, implies that if is like a wired usb 2 port but isn't. If you plan to run anything other than a usb drive best to test that it works first in the shop. You also, can't power things from it, even though itself is powered by a mains adapter which I think is criminal. I purchased this but could never even get it to work. That's because it has no support for Vista, only Windows XP. I moved it to an XP machine, and after finally getting it "working," found out that the range is not the advertised 30 feet, but closer to 4 feet. That's right, I couldn't get anything over 4-6 feet to work with the hub.

The hub also feels cheaply made and not worth the currently advertised price. Stay away from this product at all costs.

"Not worth it" 2009-05-14

I've been using this KVM switch for almost a year and it's a headache. For some reason the buttons on the front panel stop working after a few days and you can only switch by the keyboard which is fine... until the keyboard locks up. Then you have to pull the power supply and reboot the thing which is very annoying since I have it mounted in a rack.

Keys will also occasionally lock up while I'm typing also requiring a reboot of the device.

I'd go with a different brand. Not recommended at all.

I've been happy using the PRO2 series at work (the previous version of this KVM switch), so when I needed to set up some computers for work at home, I ordered one of these. It's total garbage. When it works, it's good, it does what you'd expect a KVM switch to do. The problem is that it often DOESN'T.

My first problem was that I didn't realize that it was incompatible with regular KVM cables, of which there were plenty at work so I didn't order any. You have to order new, pricy (and somewhat fragile) KVM cables that have a SCSI-50 connector. When I finally got those cables (which don't seem to be sold at local computer retailers like Fry's or MicroCenter)...

The first switch I ordered didn't work. It would switch the video, but the USB connections didn't work, and my computers couldn't detect what resolution to use on half the ports (normally this is supplied through the video cable as serial data, probably some of the pins were non-functional). I sent it back. When I received a replacement, that one didn't work either. I tried flashing the firmware, and then it started working normally. I was finally happy with the thing. Now, a few months later, it decided to stop working again, with the same symptoms as the first KVM switch had (USB no longer works). I tried re-flashing the firmware (which you can only do from a PC), but that didn't fix it.

F*** this thing. Get something cheaper that works, or get a used PRO2 switch and some USB to PS/2 converters for the console mouse and keyboard.

"Belkin high-res video issues with VGA-DVI" 2008-10-18

I have had several Belkin products. I recently replaced an older 4-port PS/2 Pro2 switch with this newest model which uses a dual cable with either USB or PS/2 connectors. I am driving a 1920x1200 monitor. On the older KVM I used a DVI->VGA adapter because the Belkin only had a VGA connector. Video clarity was fine. This new model, with the exact same configuration, gave me slightly fuzzy video which was unacceptable. This same configuration was fine on the older Belkin KVM. Belkin customer service told me it was a typical problem with the DVI->VGA adapter.... it worked fine on their older model! Be careful if you will use a similar config. Other aspects of the switch were fine. The new 'slim' cables are very nice.... if only the video was the same!

I was very disappointed in this adapter. It was recommended to me to be used to allow my embroidery/sewing machine to communicate with my new computer. It was not compatible. I am not very "techy" however I did not read anywhere that it would not work with Vista. I promptly requested and received return instructions, which I followed exactly. That was @3 weeks ago and I am still waiting for a refund. I'm very disappointed in the product as well as the company from which it was purchased. I do plan to stay on top of this since this item was not cheap.

I bought this to use with my GPS receiver. I never got that far. After following the (poor) directions and running software, it promptly shut my machine OFF. Not just an error message or locking Windows up, it shut the whole dang thing off. After rebooting, Windows indicated it had encountered a SERIOUS error and directed to a supposed fix from the manufacturer. I tried that and got the same result. Kachunk...off. To make matters worse, it had fried my sound card and I had to buy a new one. Boy, was I steamed.

I don't know about the other OP systems, but if you are running Windows XP it is a pain to install!!! It took me 2 days before I got it running properly, and don't even think about calling tech support unless you enjoy being on hold for a half hour. When I finally got the software installed it worked out beautifully, I have not had any problems whatsoever with the adapter itself. So a few minor headached in the beginning with software installation but the over all performance of the adapter itself is excellent.

I bought the -MAC version of this adapter one day at CompUSA because I needed to connect my Newton to my iMac. The first thing that I found out about it is the drivers are *very* buggy. The adapter also had to be plugged in when I booted up the iMac or the drivers wouldn't see the adapter. Same if I unplugged and replugged the adapter while the machine was running. So much for USB hot-pluggability!

Also, Belkin couldn't even be bothered to release Mac OS X drivers for this adapter. Though, considering the state of the OS 9 drivers, I don't exactly know if I'd want them.

All in all, you'd be better off with one of the USB-Serial adapters from Keyspan. (USB-PDA or High Speed) I'm going to pick one up as soon as my budget allows.

1 Star for this because if you have a "smart" keyboard or mouse, like I do, this KVM will not allow the smart keys/functions to work. It blocks the communication that normally would occur between the keyboard or mouse and the driver software that implements the smart functions.

This seems to be unique to Belkin because the other KVM I own works fine with the smart keyboard and mouse devices.

It's too bad. I like the Belkin switch form factor and hotkey arrangement better, but I can't use it because of the lack of support for smart devices.

Pros:

You can have 1 computer using the ps/2 ports to connect to the kvm, and another computer using usb ports to connect to the kvm (as well as having ps/2 or usb output as well).

The refresh rate is very good to the monitor. No noticable lag whatsoever.

You can have sound coming out of 1 computer, while having the monitor on another compter at the same time.

You can use usb powered keyboards and mice.

You can pass through a usb hub to connect the keyboard/mouse kvm input.

Cons:

When closest to the wall that I can get it, it is about 14-15 inches from wall to front of kvm.

Short usb input cable. My laptop has the vga connector on one side of laptop, and the usb port is on the opposit side. The usb input cable was not long enough to reach the other side of the laptop.

But, this want a problem, since this switch will actually work with a usb hub.

Computers used on this kvm:

98se machine, connected through the ps/2 ports.

XP 32 machine, connected through usb ports.

XP 32 laptop, connected through usb ports.

Keyboard and mouse used on this kvm:

Logitech G11 keyboard - usb

Dynex DX-WMSE Optical mouse - usb

Experiene:

I have personally owned 3 kvm's.

I have used an additional 2 kvm's at work.

This is by far the best out of the 5 that I have used.

I figured my mp3 player would charge and work at the same time, but I found out that when it's plugged in, the mp3 player will ONLY charge and not play at the same time. So if the car is not on, it won't charge. Therefore you can't listen to it when the car is running because that is when it charges. You have to bring it in the house and charge it. Not very useful if you can't have it plugged in charging as it plays.

I cannot, in all good conscience, rate this item higher than a single star. Though I have had this unit for a few months now, it has failed on me numerous times, more than any reliable UPS should. Even when there is no power interruption, the unit will often click off unexpectedly, effectively shutting down every single electronic that is plugged into it. This is quite frustrating (and frankly inexcusable), especially when I use this device with all of my high-end equipment. Another faulty characteristic of this device to note...it makes a frequent and EXTREMELY annoying high-pitched beep every time it clicks off (so unless you're deaf, I strongly urge you to take this into consideration). If you value your electronics, DO NOT BUY THIS! I would recommend a CyberPower unit, which is far more reliable and priced fairly.

This Belkin USB Adapter works flawlessly as opposed to a Keyspan USB adapter, which I also own that failed repeatedly to work. I use the Belkin USB Adapter with a MacBook Pro inside VMware Fusion 2 and Windows XP. I like the red and blue LED's that go on and off confirming that the adapter is working. I've used it primarily to run ARC-1 with my Anthem Statement D2.

I bought this to interface a variety of different serial devices to a laptop with no serial ports. It worked with a very old OmniData Polycorder data logger, did not work with an AGI SuperSting resistivity meter, and did not work with an AutoEnginuity automotive scan tool. Another disappointing product from Belkin.

Both AGI and AutoEnginuity recommend the Keyspan USA-19HS, so I bought that instead. Doing some research, I found that the Keyspan is recommended by many different manufacturers, and it has a good reputation for working with most serial devices. A better solution is a PCMCIA or Expresscard serial port card, which are about the same price as this USB adapter. But I am using an Asus EeePC, which has no Expresscard slot either.

Have had it for ~3 months and about 15% of the time when accessing the device under XP SP3, I get a BSOD. Eliminated rest of setup and narrowed it down to Belkin drivers, on two different laptops.

I've had good service from Belkin in the past, this is the first junk & a waste of time for me from them.

I am a Systems Analyst and PC troubleshooter by profession. This Belkin cable failed repeated tests to read and write data successfully to my new LG external DVD writer. After ruling out other factors (media, USB port), the simple fact is: it could not create DVD backup disks (every attempt failed; several "coasters" were created) - and once I effortlessly created two DVD backups successfully using another cable, the Belkin cable could not even verify the successful disks (in read-only mode). Sorry. Returning for refund.

I ordered this cable so I can tether shot- it works perfectly- just connect it to your camera then your laptop, make sure you have the right software to tether shot, then begin clicking away.

When buy this cable be sure you know the number pins your camera usb cord is, so you can buy the right one. this one is a 5pin - some cameras need a 4 pin, it all depends on your camera make. So please be sure to check that out before you purchase.

If your not sure how to check if you need 5 pin or 4 pin, take the usb you already own for your camera and look into the end that connects to the camera. Look for the shiny little pins on one side- then count them- some have 5 some have 4.

Had this plugged into an iMac for about a year, fully loaded with scanner, printers, and card readers attached. Worked 90% of the time with no trouble (only the occasional computer re-boot to reset it) until this week, when it died completely. Now the power light is on but none of the ports are responsive, and plugging peripherals directly into computer proves that the hub is the problem.

We have 2 of these in our office, purchased at the same time (about 18 months ago). My partner's hub recently heated up so hot it marked up the laminate on his desk. Then it stopped working. Mine is still working, hasn't overheated (yet), but now I am feeling a little paranoid. Belkin has a "lifetime" warranty on it's products, but when you enter this model's number on their web site, it's no longer in their database. So good luck getting a replacement or any warranty satisfaction.

I bought one of these about a year ago, and it worked fine. Just bought a second one, and am back for a third. I like having the two slots on top, good for a crowded desktop, and have not noticed any noticeable heat (top is close to room temp, bottom is lukewarm).
